Held on Sunday, May 31, the competition is presented in partnership with Dr. Wen, Dean of the Business School, and Michael Grimshaw, and in close collaboration with the School of Business and Public Policy. The event transforms the campus into a professional, real-world business environment where students showcase the ideas they have developed over months of preparation. Throughout the day, teen entrepreneurs pitch their original start-up business plans to panels of executive-level judges and industry professionals. Students are evaluated on innovation, feasibility, market opportunity, financial planning, and presentation skills, gaining invaluable feedback and exposure to real business expectations. The competition is supported by an anticipated 30 school employee and student volunteers, who assist with event operations, team logistics, judging coordination, and guest experience. Their involvement is essential to ensuring a smooth, engaging, and professional event from start to finish. The event welcomes more than 450 guests to CSU Dominguez Hills, including approximately 225 student competitors, executive-level volunteers and judges, parents, teachers, administrators, mentors, and community members. This diverse audience creates a powerful ecosystem of support and inspiration for the participating students. At the conclusion of the competition, Project ECHO awards thousands of dollars in scholarships and start-up funding to winning teams, recognizing excellence, creativity, and entrepreneurial potential. Beyond awards, students leave with increased confidence, real-world skills, and a clearer vision of college and career pathways. The Teen Entrepreneurs’ Business Plan Competition exemplifies Project ECHO’s mission to prepare young people for success by connecting education, entrepreneurship, and community partnership in a meaningful and lasting way.
